Can MMWC’s distribution system support fire hydrants?
No. MMWC's water system is a gravity-feed system. Also, the majority of
MMWC's transmission and distribution lines consist of 3" pipe. State guidelines call for
a minimum of 6” diameter. In short, MMWC's system provides neither the volume nor
the pressure required to supply pressurized fire hydrants. Nevertheless, some cisterns
for fire-fighting purposes have been installed, at CCMEPOA's expense, in various parts
of CCME.
